Some tips for autistic women and girls attending healthcare appointments, based on information gathered at our event ‘Health and Wellbeing for Women and Girls on the Autism Spectrum’:

Prepare in advance

  • Have a list of questions or points you wish to cover
  • Meet with a trusted person beforehand to go over what you want to say

Take notes during the appointment

  • This could be done by you, or someone supporting you

Clarify understanding

  • At end of the appointment, go back over key points
  • Make sure you have understood the information given
  • Ask questions about anything you are unclear on
  • Ask how you can get in touch afterwards if you want to ask further questions or realise you are unsure about something
