If you are feeling anxious, frustrated, or uncertain about what is happening in your area, the SWAN community is here to offer support.
As many of you will already know, both Aberdeenshire and Forth Valley Health and Social Care Partnership have announced that they will be closing their Adult Autism Assessment Pathways due to a lack of funding and staff to meet the growing demand, despite the negative impact this will have on the huge numbers of people already on the waiting list as well as those yet to seek diagnosis.
We understand how distressing and overwhelming these recent developments are, and we want to acknowledge the very real impact they are having on autistic individuals, families, and communities.
We know that there will be concerns over similar challenges in other areas - and also that many of you live in areas where there is already no service to access an NHS diagnosis.
We are working to raise this issue with decision-makers and ensure the impact of these closures is understood. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on our social media channels and website as we learn more, and if there are ways you can take action or support ongoing efforts, we will share that information with you.
Most importantly, please remember that you are not alone. If you are feeling anxious, frustrated, or uncertain about what is happening in your area, the SWAN community is here to offer support.
It can really help to connect with others who truly understand—people who will listen, share, and support you without judgment.
At SWAN, we offer opportunities to meet and talk with other autistic people who may be feeling the same way, both online and in-person. If you’re feeling lost or unsure right now, you don’t have to go through this alone.
Whether you have a formal diagnosis, self identify as autistic or are still exploring whether you might be autistic, you are equally valid and equally welcome in our community.
