Places and spaces for autistic women, girls and non-binary people
SWAN Places
SWAN Places are in-person social meet-up groups in locations across Scotland. They are autistic spaces, run by autistic volunteers.
These local groups are relaxed and laid-back gatherings for all women (both cis and trans) and non-binary people who identify as autistic.
They are safe and confidential spaces, facilitated by autistic volunteers.
SWAN Places are not structured support groups, but rather an opportunity to benefit from community and connection in an all-autistic space.
You can share, listen, or simply relax among like-minded peers who understand and support one another.
Have a look at your local group below to find out more, and see the calendar for meeting dates.
You can contact our SWAN Places Meet-Up Volunteers if you have any questions - you'll find their emails under "How do I join?"
You can also sign up to the SWAN mailing list for news and updates on all our groups.
Please read our Guidelines & Rules before you come along to any of our SWAN Places groups, to help ensure they are safe, supportive and friendly spaces.
*Please always check the calendar before you go to a group as very occasionally we may have to change or cancel with short notice (only if unavoidable) and we will post any changes here.

Dundee: Wellbeing Walk
Where & When?
For our Dundee walk, we will be walking a different route each month, please see what walks we'll be doing each month, below:
22nd May: Stobsmuir Ponds
6th June: Dudhope Park
9th July: Dundee Riverside
August: To be announced
10:00-11:00am
Walk route description: May: Stobsmuir Ponds
Meeting point: Toilet Block situated in Stobsmuir Park on Pitkerro Road side of Park.
The park is accessible by foot, car and public transport. Cars can park on each of the roads on the 3 sides (Clepington Road/ Pitkerro Road/ Stobsmuir Road). Buses up the Forfar Road, along Clepington Road and up and down Pitkerro Road would allow access with a short walk depending on the area travelling from. Buses 17/32 and 33 travel from dundee city centre to Pitkerro Road stop.
Walk Leader: Louise, she has short gray hair, she is short in height, she will normally be wearing sunglasses due to the light, she will have her bright orange ‘walk leader’ arm band on for the first 5-10 mins but it gets taken off after that. (It’s quite bright and noticeable). Once you come over, she will introduce herself and have a short conversation with you.
Stobsmuir Park: This is a lovely wee park, the walks are suitable for all abilities, if unsure just ask. I have seen wheelchair users, those with walking sticks and crutches utilise this park at various times. Some come to just sit on a bench, others do laps with their buddies. The park has a resident pair of swans, currently sitting on the nest. There are multiple other birds here, currently coots, moorhens, the usual mallards and gulls, pigeons but also tufted ducks, sometimes we get goosanders but they may have moved onto the rivers to have the wee ones. Often we’ll have a heron or two here as well. The park has a playpark for children, adult outdoor exercise equipment as well as open grass areas with some beautiful trees. Its a great wee place to either distract yourself with nature all around you or to walk and chat with friends.
The walking route: We will begin at the toilet block and follow the tarmac path long the side of the larger of the 2 ponds, next to the Pitkerro side of the park, we will then loop around to go around the top pond, coming down the far side of the park. This is again a tarmac path, flat, it follows alongside the grassy area and round the back of the play park area back to the toilet block. We will then walk up the central path leaving the toilet block behind us and curve around to head towards the grassy area to the eastern side of the park, beyond the hedges. This has a very small circular section before we make our way back towards the ponds. If time permits we will do a second loop.
Rest areas: there are multiple benches/ seats at various points on the route and also next to the toilet block/ playpark area as well as the circular section. Some of the sides of the ponds have no seats but there will be one within sight. This is not a large park and most of the seats can be viewed at most times. People can take a seat at any point and pause while we continue (you would be able to see the walking group for the majority of the walk from any of the main seats) or we will pause at the toilet block/ seat near the playpark at the half way mark.
The park is mainly flat, with tarmac paths, the grassy areas are also flat and can be easily walked. However, I have made the decision to stick to paths on this walk.
The walk itself should last approximately 40-50 mins. Rest assured no one will be left behind

Dundee Wellbeing Walk Stobsmuir Ponds
SWAN Places22 May, 10:00 - 11:00
Where & When?

Dundee Wellbeing Walk Dudhope Park
SWAN Places6 Jun, 10:00 - 11:00

Body Doubling
Where & When?
Who can come along?
This online group is for all autistic (diagnosed or self-identified) women (both cis and trans) and non-binary people over 18.
What's it all about?
What is body doubling?
Body doubling is any activity where a group of people get together to work together in order to keep each other from getting distracted. The idea has become popular through neurodiversity communities because it can be very helpful for people who struggle with motivation, focus, executive function, etc.
What you might body double:
- Meal planning, cooking, or eating
- Decluttering a doom pile or area at home
- Starting or completing a project
- Administration tasks you've been avoiding
- Creative work, organizing—anything at all
How it will work:
We'll start each session off with a brief introduction and check in, where you can share your goals, or what you're working on in the chat. We'll then all put our microphones on mute (cameras on or off) and focus on our work. During this time you can use the chat function freely. After 25 minutes we'll open a breakout room for people to go into to socialise if they'd like to. People are also welcome to stay in the main room to continue working. Once we're 5 minutes from the end of the session, we'll let people know we only have a few minutes left, and then say goodbye at 7pm.

Wellbeing Webinars
Who can come along?
SWAN Wellbeing Webinars are open to all autistic women and non-binary people (diagnosed, self-identified or exploring whether they may be autistic) who are over 18 and living in Scotland.
SWAN webinars are autistic-only spaces, led by autistic staff.
Friends and allies, families and carers, and professionals and practitioners who do not identify as autistic but want to learn more about autistic women and girls are warmly welcomed to specific webinars only, where stated in the event description - if you’re not sure, please do just ask us before booking.
Where & When?
Online, via Zoom
Times and days can vary depending on the speaker but webinars are usually once a month, on a Tuesday evening for 1.5 hours - please check our calendar or sign up to our Newsletter for updates on upcoming webinar topics with full details on times and dates.
What’s it all about?
SWAN Wellbeing Webinars are regular online events exploring topics which relate to our autistic identities, how we support our wellbeing and what brings us joy.
They are an opportunity to connect with others, to listen, learn and exchange information, thoughts and experiences in a safe, friendly, autistic-led space, from the comfort of your own environment.
Previous webinar topics include: managing energy, autism & menopause, autistic joy, surviving and thriving as an autistic parent, writing for wellbeing, autism & ADHD, coping with anxiety, drawing as stimming and student life. We base our webinars on what you tell us you want to hear about, and we always welcome suggestions and requests.
Some webinars are facilitated by SWAN staff, and at others we have an autistic guest speaker. We usually start with a presentation, or a facilitated chat with the speaker, followed by time for questions and informal discussion. Some webinars are based around an activity such as writing or drawing. The format can vary, but we’ll always let you know what to expect before you register.
We aim to make our webinars as accessible as possible - bearing in mind that all our needs and preferences are different - and all our staff and speakers are autistic too. You are free to participate as little or as much as you feel comfortable - talk, join in the text chat or read the closed captions, stim, bring your pets along, or just watch and listen with your camera on or off.
How do I join?
Please sign up to attend via the SWAN Eventbrite page.
Numbers are limited by our Zoom account, and because attendees have told us they prefer slightly smaller groups, so the conversation and text chat are more accessible.
We do increase participant numbers or run webinars more than once where topics are popular or we have a special guest speaker.
Webinars are not available to watch later via recording, unless stated as an option in the event description.
You will receive an email with full details about the webinar you have signed up for, including accessibility information and the joining link once you have registered to attend.
PLEASE NOTE:
We currently use Eventbrite and Zoom as tools to enable us to run these online groups.
They do have pros and cons and can be a bit stressful to navigate sometimes, so make sure you check your inbox (or junk mail) for emails from Eventbrite leading up to the event and please allow yourself plenty time to get signed up and logged in before the group starts - it's fine to join a bit early as you'll just see a virtual 'waiting room' screen until the group starts and the host lets everyone in at once.

Webinar - Attention, Focus and Transitions with Dr Wenn Lawson
SWAN SpacesOnline - 20 May, 18:00 - 19:30
Booking opens Monday 13th April, 4.30pm.
About this Webinar
In this webinar we aim to cover the following phenomena:
- Why difficulty with transitions—shifting attention, moving between tasks, or changing environments is difficult in Autism.
- What the reasons are, why this is innate and what can help move someone forward, when they appear stuck.
- How such difficulties are core to the Autistic experience but rather than being a behavioural ‘deficit' - this challenge is rooted in specific cognitive and sensory processing differences, particularly Monotropism and Autistic Inertia.
More About Our Speaker: Dr Wenn Lawson
Dr. Wenn, auDHD, dyslexic and dyspraxic, is passionate about autism, mental health, family, and building autism understanding across the generations, professions and the world. He is a British Psychologist, a qualified Social Worker, a well-known autistic researcher, author, speaker and poet.

Autistic Discovery Group
SWAN SpacesOnline - 9 Jun, 18:00 - 19:30
Who can come along?
This group session is for all women (both cis and trans) and non-binary people, over-18 and living in Scotland, who are considering whether they might be autistic, thinking about self identifying, seeking a diagnosis. or currently going through the diagnosis process.
What to expect?
A space for curiosity, questions and options -
Exploring whether you are autistic and/or going through the diagnostic process can be a long, difficult and confusing time and it can be hard to find relevant, reliable resources and information. This drop-in group is a safe space to explore, ask questions and meet others at a similar point in their journey.
We will explore what it means to be autistic and talk about options and the experiences of self identifying or of going through a diagnosis process. There will be a chance for questions and discussion and to look at other resources and supports available.
As with all SWAN’s online groups, you are welcome to have your camera on or off and you can join in the conversation and use the chat function as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
Where & When?
Online, via Zoom
The session is repeated on the 1st Tuesday of each month
Times for this session vary for each month.
How do I join?
Please sign up to attend via the SWAN Eventbrite page - we limit the numbers to keep these groups small, so everyone can get the most from attending.
We will email you with more detail about the session, including accessibility information and the joining link once you have signed up.

Where and when?
Who can come along?
SWAN Queer Peer Support is an informal social space for all women (both cis and trans) and non-binary people who identify as autistic and LGBTQIA+.
The group is a safe, confidential space and you don't need to be 'out' to anyone about any aspect of your identity.
When registering to attend, please do use the name you feel most comfortable with - this doesn't need to match your ID or other documents. You can edit your name and pronouns at any time.
What's it all about?
It's a chance to meet other LGBTQIA+ autistic folks, access peer support and information, and share thoughts and experiences within a friendly, supportive community.
The session will be facilitated by queer, autistic SWAN staff, who will be there to manage and support the space.
There will be no presentation or set agenda - from time to time we might offer an optional activity like colouring sheets to help us focus or feel less anxious while we chat, but we'll always let you know in the event info beforehand.
You are welcome to participate as little or as much as you feel comfortable - talk, join in the text chat, read the closed captions, stim, bring your pets along, wrap yourself in a cosy blanket, or just watch and listen with your camera on or off.
