This funding will enable us to continue and develop our autistic-led wellbeing walks over the coming year, building on the success of the project and helping more autistic women and non-binary people across Scotland to access welcoming, supportive opportunities to connect with others and spend time in nature.

Since launching our walking project, we have seen first-hand the difference these groups make. Our walks have created spaces where autistic people can connect without pressure, reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and enjoy movement in ways that feel accessible and meaningful. As the project has grown, so too has our network of dedicated volunteer Walk Leaders, whose passion and commitment have made these groups possible.

The new funding will allow us not only to continue delivering our existing walks but also to improve their accessibility. Over the coming year we will be developing new resources, including our portfolio of sensory maps designed by autistic artists, alongside other practical improvements that will help make our walks more accessible and inclusive for autistic participants with a wide range of needs and preferences.

This award also provides funding for staff time to support the continued coordination, development and sustainability of the project, ensuring our volunteers are well supported and our walking groups continue to flourish.

We know this was a highly competitive funding programme, making this award even more special. It reflects the dedication of everyone involved in the project—both our staff and dedicated volunteers who have supported the project to grow over the past year.

Most importantly, we want to thank everyone who has joined us on a walk. Your feedback, ideas and enthusiasm have shaped this project into something that continues to make a real difference.

Finally, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Walking Scotland for their support through the Walking Fund for Scotland. Their investment will help us continue creating inclusive opportunities for autistic people to improve wellbeing, build connections and experience the benefits of walking in nature.
