At SWAN, we’re used to celebrating the strength of our community, and this month, our very own Volunteer Coordinator, Mandy, took that strength to a whole new level. Competing at the Scottish Powerlifting Nationals last week.
Powerlifting is made up of 3 max lifts - squat, bench press and deadlift.
Mandy not only won her weight category but also set a new Scottish record in the benchpress and deadlifted over double her body weight —an incredible achievement for someone who only began training nine months ago!
Mandy looks after our SWAN volunteer team but outside of her work with SWAN, she’s been training everyday. “I started powerlifting nine months ago because I loved the proprioception - the way it makes you feel every movement - but I never dreamed I’d be competing at this level".
Mandy is now training hard for the GB Nationals and Trials, set to take place in 12 weeks!
